Production Engineer
RESEARCH ENGINEEER/SCIENTIST
(Fixed purpose contract 12 months)
APT Ireland an Enterprise Ireland funded Technology Gateway based on the Athlone Institute of Technology campus. The team at APT is providing world class solutions for SME’s and Multinational companies using polymer materials across the medical, composite, recycling and pharmaceutical sectors.
Role of the Research Engineer / Scientist
The role of the Research Engineer / Scientist is to lead essential investigation and applied research based on the on-going needs of the Industrial Client-base of APT, drive the development of key research areas pertinent to the Irish Plastics Industry and pursue funding from academic and industrial sources to grow research capacity and collaborations in the medical, composite or recycling sectors.
Essential Requirements / Experience
Minimum 1 year experience in a medical device manufacturer.
Experience of processing and testing of polymer materials
Excellent written and spoken English
Proven track record of project management in an R&D setting

Post graduate positions:
Self-funded MSc in Polymer engineering
AIT offers self-funded options to international research students (non EU only) to both level 9 and 10. Prospective candidates must meet AIT’s minimum entry requirements. All students must first enrol on a 24 month research programme (MSc level 9) which may be extended if the student meets internal progression criteria by an additional 24 months to enable the student to compete a structured PhD (level 10) research programme. Interested researchers should identify a suitable research programme. Associated annual costs are outlined below. For further information contact materials@ait.ie.
Fees payable per annum for non EU students: €10,000
Entry Requirements:
- Equivalent to Irish second-class honours level 8 degree (2:ii) or above
- You will also need to submit original transcripts from your undergraduate degree(s) (or officially certified copies thereof). For candidates yet to graduate, offers of studentships are conditional on them obtaining the appropriate degree grade.
- IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent (if English is not your first language)
