Dr Romina Pezzoli is a Senior Research Engineer in the APT Technology dedicated to the research and development of sustainable packaging alternatives. She holds a BEng (Hons) degree in Materials Engineering with specialisation in Polymers from the Simon Bolivar University, Venezuela followed by industrial experience in the development and manufacture of flexible packaging. She completed her PhD studies at the Athlone Institute of Technology where she currently drives the research on sustainable packaging solutions in collaboration with diverse Irish industrial partners. Dr Pezzoli is also a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering & Informatics and supervisor of PhD projects in the packaging area at the AIT. Among her most recent projects, the following stand out: evaluation of the performance of multilayer high barrier flexible packaging structures and their waste management, development of multi-material compostable packaging structures, recyclability of thermoplastic materials and their applications in a circular economy loop and the enhancement of alternative biobased materials for the design of functional packaging structures.
